Barcodes and scanning

Several barcodes per product, scanning with a device or a camera, and scale labels.

A product's barcodes

Each product has a main barcode, and you can add more: another supplier's code, a new packaging code or a carton code. Each code belongs to one product only.

An extra barcode can carry its own unit — scanning the carton code adds a carton, not a single item. Extra barcodes are recognised online; offline, only the main barcode.

Scanning on an invoice

The invoice and quick-invoice pages have a «Scan barcode» button. USB and wireless scanners work without drivers; on a phone or laptop you can turn on the camera.

A barcode that is on no product adds no row and says so; one that is on several products asks you to pick the right one.

  1. On the invoice page, press «Scan barcode».
  2. Scan with the device, or type the code and press Enter; or turn on the camera and hold the barcode in front of it.
  3. The product is added to the invoice in the right unit.

Scale labels

A shop scale prints a barcode with the weight or the price inside it. With «Scale label» turned on in the hardware settings, scanning such a label adds the product with that weight.

When the label carries a price rather than a weight, the product's selling price is needed to work out the quantity; if it is missing, you are told and no row is added.
