Manufacturing
What a product costs to make, recording production, adding it to stock, and material cost changes.
What manufacturing is for
Anything you make, assemble or prepare yourself — a device, a repaired part, a dish — has a recipe: what it is made of and what each part costs.
One form serves every trade. You enter components and materials like invoice lines; pick them from your products or type a name freely, and add or remove any column you need.
Making a product
Every quantity is entered for making one unit. Workers, time, pay and other costs such as packaging or transport are optional. The cost of one unit and the total are worked out for you.
You choose the currency, and each row has its own unit. If you set the total by hand you must say why; the calculated total is kept beside it.
- Open «Manufacturing» from the menu and press «Make a product».
- Choose the product, or create a new one, and set the currency.
- Enter the components and materials with quantity, unit and unit cost; add labour and other costs if you have them.
- Enter how many you are making and press «Record production».
Adding to a warehouse
At the bottom of the form is a switch, «Add to a warehouse?». Off, only the cost is recorded and no stock figure changes. On, you choose the warehouse — or create one right there — and the product is added to stock at its production cost.
You can also have the materials that were picked from your products taken out of the same warehouse. If a material is short, nothing is recorded and you are told so.
History and report
Each production stays in the history with that day’s components and prices; a material getting dearer later does not change what earlier production cost. A recipe that has been used gets a new version when you edit it.
On each product’s page you see its manufacturing section and can correct it. The production report shows what was made in a period, which materials were used most, and whose cost went up or down.
